Forget the Myths: Here’s Why Wyda Aluminum Roasting Pans Are Safe for Microwaves
Conclusive evidence that aluminum packaging can be safely used in microwave ovens has been found through a study by the European Aluminum Foil Association (EAFA), supported by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV in Freising, Germany.
Among the study’s objectives were:
Identifying potential safety risks to consumers and the microwave oven.
Confirming possible threats to consumers when heating food in aluminum packaging, compared to transparent plastic packaging in microwaves.
Comparing the heating quality, uniformity, and efficiency with plastic packaging.
According to the EAFA, no dangerous situations or appliance damage were observed after conducting approximately 200 tests with aluminum packaging in four different microwave models.
In their conclusion, the association states:
“Microwave heating of food packaged in aluminum trays or in plastic containers with aluminum foil or aluminum-laminated lids is perfectly feasible.” No hazardous outcomes or microwave damage were found in the tests conducted with aluminum foil packaging.
Thomas Pfeiffer, the author of the study, said: “The Fraunhofer Institute conducted the heating procedures with microwaves set to full power, and there was not a single case of microwave oven damage or danger to users.”
In addition to this study, the Brazilian Aluminum Association (ABAL) also debunks the myth on its website that “disposable aluminum packaging cannot be used in microwaves.”
